Cedar Gate

August 1, 2025

I live in an ADU with a small driveway. I decided to make a steel rolling gate to compliment the fence, and to close while I’m out of town.

Building the frame

I used 2in square steel tubing for the frame. I purchased rolling wheels from the local welding supply store, which run in a track across the driveway. I cut the steel to length, welded the frame up on sawhorses, and sanded the welds down flush. Then, I applied primer and black paint.

Cladding

I purchased cedar fence slats for the interior of the door. Firring strips were screwed into the sides of the fram. The cedar slats can then be screwed into the firring strips to fill in the gate.
